KHALID ANWAR ANSARI (1938-2024): HISTORICAL ROLE & CONTRIBUTION
Dr. Khalid Anwar Ansari was a distinguished Indian politician, academic, and social reformer who played a significant role in Bihar’s political and social landscape. Born in 1938, he was the eldest son of Abdul Qaiyum Ansari, a renowned freedom fighter and former minister .
Dr. Ansari pursued higher education with dedication, earning a Ph.D. from Delhi University in 2012 and an M.Phil from Jamia Millia Islamia in 2003 . His academic background laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors in politics and social work.
Dr. Ansari’s political journey was marked by his commitment to public service and advocacy for marginalized communities. He served as a Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, representing the Dehri constituency in 1985 . Later, he became a Member of the Bihar Legislative Council on 23 June 2018, representing the Janata Dal (United) .

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Ansari was known for his steadfast support of secularism and inclusive governance. In April 2025, amid internal party debates over the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, he emphasized unity among Muslim leaders within the JD(U), stating, “No Muslim leader will leave the party,” and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to secular and democratic values.
Dr. Khalid Anwar Ansari passed away on September 3, 2024, at the age of 86, in Patna. His death was widely mourned across political and social circles. He was laid to rest in his native town of Dehri On Sone in the Rohtas district .
Dr. Ansari’s legacy endures through his contributions to Bihar’s political discourse, his advocacy for marginalized communities, and his unwavering commitment to secularism and social justice.
